I have A LOT of credit card debt from opening a business and having to sell it in one year because of family responsibilities. Saw a bankruptcy attorney, but the options don’t seem to work for me as there’s no way I could ever pay off these debts.
I know it’s very immoral, but what will actually happen if I just stop paying on them? I know I’ll be inendated with phone calls and lose my good credit standing, but can they attach my bank account or any other asset?

I am getting pretty deep into debt slowly. I have a charged off car payment that I have to pay off, a credit card bill, an old cell phone bill, and a student loan. The student loan is actually being defered right now but everything else is outstanding. It probably totals $8000 mainly because of the car payment.
Most of these bills are old from when I was a few years younger. How do debt consolidation companies work?

I have a credit card debt is not so much I actually thought I can pay it all off. I received a phone call from the bank and they offered a settlement much less then what I owe. Can this really back fire on me or affect my credit in a really bad way?

I owe about $12,000 in credit card debt and I wanted to make that my year’s goal to pay it off, but a lot of the websites I find require that you own a home, or charge a huge interest for someone to negotiate with your creditors to bring down interest. Does anyone know of a good resource where I can just consolidate the debt and make one reasonable payment?

My GF has a few accounts that have went into collections. Accounts that she had prior to us getting together. We have both fell into a little bit of financial trouble seeing as how our condo (that we are renting) has went into foreclosure right from under our feet. She was told from one of her friends to contact a debt consolidation company and they will help her to take care of the $5k worth of debt that she has that has went to collections. i have found other things online (please see following link)
http://www.creditinfocenter.com/debt/DebtConsolCompanies.shtml
that advise against such things BUT there is no real reason WHY… we would both like a chance to breathe and would like a 2nd chance to get our credit back into a respectable boundary. I dont care if the consolidation company is going to make money off of us as long as we can start paying down these bills a little at a time and get back on track with the rest of society. Neither of us have and repositions or bankruptcies she just has some credit card issues and a cosmetic
medical bill that needs to get paid off…
thanks in advance for any info.

HI, I am hoping that people who have used debt consolidation or reduction companies, can give me a little feedback on what the process involves, what type of debt you started out with, how fast was it paid off? What did it do to your credit? I feel like I am drowning right now and have to think about this as an option, but feel I need more information from people that have used something similar before. Also, if you had a good experience, can you pass along contact information for the company you used? Thanks in Advance!

I have very high unsecured debt. I can’t keep up the minimun payments. would debt consolidation be the way to go, or should I declare bankrupcy.Which would hurt me more in the long run?

Hello all, I have a question regarding debt consolidation. I have about 15k worth of debt and have tried applying to two companies for a debt consolidation loan and was denied both times. I thought about trying what one of the other posters suggested , writing to the individual companies threating a voluntary bankruptcy order. I have about 10k in the bank, but I don’t want to borrow from that lender because I wouldn’t be able to use the money in my account. My credit is only good. What other options do I have? Thanks
