Does credit card debt go away after a certain number of years?

April 5th, 2010

I have question that might sound silly, but i just heard from my brother that you can max out your credit cards and not pay the bills and leave the country and if you leave the country for 7 years your credit card debt gets erased. (we are currently living in Greece) I find this hard to beleive has anyone ever heard of this and is it true. I personally think that the companies can hunt you down and take over everything you own.

Just wondering what the average is. My husband tells me everyone has debt, and I can understand my house and my car, but what is your credit card debt?

Bad credit debt consolidation loan?

March 31st, 2010

Here is what’s going on with me. I have about 30,000 dollars worth of student loans, however I have them through more than one place…I have one through Astrive, a couple of Direct Loans, and one through Wachovia. I also have a car that my mom took out in her name and is going to want off of her credit that’s around 13,000. So, it comes to around 50,000 total of debt. I would like a debt consolidation loan, not only to get the car off of my mom’s credit, but to make things easier for me, because making the minimum payment to everything is going to cost me more per month than just paying one place. Plus, a loan will build my credit. The thing is, I have bad credit because I was swamped with medical bills a couple of years ago. Does anyone know of any companies that will give out either personal or consolidation loans of the amount that I need and will work with people of bad credit?

Would debt consolidation be right for me? Not home owner, not just credit card bills! Should I file bankruptcy?

March 31st, 2010

Hi, I am about $13,000 in debt. I have about $10,000 of student loans to repay, about $1800 in credit card bills and the remaining $1200 is phone bills and other unpaid bills. I am interested in some kind of consolidation that will allow me to pay off my bills in a quicker, and cheaper fashion than just paying them myself. Does anyone work as a financial planner, or work for a debt consolidation firm? Would it be better for me to file for bankruptcy? How would my credit be affected by both?
Any and all help is appreciated, as I have no clue what I’m doing!
Thanks!

back pay and debt consolidation?

March 29th, 2010

yes my husband owes back pay in child support. No he isn’t or wasn’t a low life father either. It’s a long storey which I really don’t want to get into. He does pay his child support faithfully. My question is though this. I was put into debt because of my ex. I have two credit cards and 3 utilities on my credit. My husband has back pay child support and a credit card on his. We have been thinking about doing a debt consolidation. I’m in the process of doing research at the moment before making any decissions. My question is, if we do so, can he add his back pay child support on his debt consolidation or not? If we do it also, do we need to do one for each or can we do it jointly? Thanks a head of time..

does taking you debt to a debt consolidation place hurt your credit?

March 25th, 2010

me and my wife have about $17,000 in credit debt. im wanting to buy a house this summer, but am unsure if i should just keep trying to pay the cards down myself or take it all to a debt consolidation company? i don’t want my credit to get hit in a bad way if i do take it there, but if i don’t take it there i think my debt to income ratio will be to high to buy a house this summer? so does the debt consolidation thing really work and will it hurt me in any way(credit or payments)?

Who is responsible for credit card debt if somebody dies? Or does the company eat it?

March 22nd, 2010

Say somebody has X amount of credit card debt, then they die but still have that debt to the credit card company outstanding, what happens? Does the company have to write it off as bad debt or ? Perhaps the company can hit up that person’s estate. But let me pose another question then – what if that person’s estate does not have enough money to cover that credit card debt.

Does anyone know of a really good/legit debt consolidation company that’s a non profit?

March 16th, 2010

Not trying to get a loan with no interest. Trying to lower interest on money owed since it seems like 75% of what I’m paying back is interest, just feels like I’m getting nowhere.

Are debt consolidation agencies a good idea?

March 9th, 2010

I have found myself in a situation after my divorce that i cannot get a grip on. I have credit card debt, not much, but cannot handle the basic payment because i moved in my dads house to help him out, he is 73 years old, he fell ill, so he could not work now i find myself paying his bills, handling his rent and basic necessities, but now i have $3000-$4000 in debt, $2000 is already in collections. I am a single mother and i was thinking about turning to a debt consolidation agency. Is this a good thing to do?

I’m being sued, I have the money to pay off a credit card debt, who should I make the payment to?

March 2nd, 2010

A relative is going to loan me the money I need to pay off my credit debt. I’m suppose to file my appearance in court on Tues.

Should I call and make arrangements to send the payment in to the credit card company or the collection agency?

Do you think they will dismiss the lawsuit?
