How do credit card debt councilors work with credit card issuers?

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

I’ve seen on t.v. how credit card debt councilors work with banks when people owe a lot of money on their credit cards. They say they can not only reduce the amount owed but also get your monthly payments down to where they are manageable. How do they do this, are there any consequences such as a reduction of credit score, and is it effective (do they really do this or is it a scam)? Also, how much do they charge? Thanks.

What is the best way to get rid of credit card debt?

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Hi All. I’m a recent college grad who is fairly new to the workforce and is ready to get rid of her credit card debt!! I was fortunate enought not to borrow much in student loans (a total of about $9,000), however by grad time I owed about 9 thousand in credit card debt. Now I am ready to get rid of this burden. I know that this sounds horrible, but my situation was very different than that of the average student. I am a mother and was raising my daughter the whole time during college. Instead of working full time I focused on my studies and only worked part time. Needless to say this made everything harder but in the end it was worth it. Also, I’m not looking for an overnight solution. It took me six years to accumulate this debt so I know it wont disappera overnight. I’m just looking for the best way to go about it. Please help!

Will negotiating credit card debt hurt my credit score?

I’ve been unemployed for a couple months, and the credit card payments are starting to hurt.

If I negotiate with the credit card company to reduced my debt or monthly payment, will this somehow hurt my credit score.

I plan on refinancing my mortgage when I get another job, and I don’t want my score to be hurt.

How do I go about eliminating my credit card debt?

Friday, November 27th, 2009

I am 23 with a nine-month-old son, and I owe (on top of my student loans from college) approximately $30,000 in credit card debt. I am looking to do a debt management/consolidation program, but was wondering if I should just contact those credit card companies that say to call them if I have financial difficulties instead? Also, which debt consolidation programs would you refer, if any? Thank you!

What happens to credit card debt when someone dies?

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

I’m wondering what happens to credit card debt when someone dies?

The person had a home that they maintained a lifetime estate on and then they died.

Do the companies just write off the debt?
Do they go after relatives?
Do they go after authorized users?

Do you think unsecured credit card debt is bad for the economy?

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

I know a lot of people are filing bankruptcy on credit card debt. I did this myself and got 35,000 dollars worth of credit card debt discharged. That means my credit card companies lost a lot of money on me. I know my credit is ruined but oh well. Unsecured debt should be more difficult to get. It is still easy to file bankruptcy if one meets the means test. Your opinion, please.

What should I do about my credit card debt?

Monday, October 5th, 2009

I recently had to defer my salary at my job for an extended period and cannot afford to pay my credit card debt. What should I do? A friend advised me to not make the next payments and negotiate with credit card companies on the debt. Is this wise? Would you advise I do something else? Thank you.
