Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

i had about $18,000 debt, and by listening to my brother i went in to debt consolidation. didnt know that it can really mess up my credit score. before i went in to credit counseling my score was 700+, but dont know how much it is now. anywayz i was in credit counseling for about 1 year, and then finally paid off the full debt with in 1 year, rather than staying in the program for 3 years. now i want to buy a house. i took my account out of credit counseling/debt consolidation about 4 months ago. i know want to buy a house. would i qualify for a home loan? where can i go to get my credit score? what kind of downpayment should i be expecting and what would be my interest rate?? any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated! thanks!

Bankruptcy or Debt Consolidation?

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

I’m so dumb dumb dumb. I earn roughly $48,000 a yr I have accrued close to $40,000 in credit card debt, it’s about $800 per month, $1750 for my house, $470 for my car, then all related living expenses. I bring home after taxes: $2,600 per month. I have obviously lived beyond my means. How did it get so bad? I trusted people. I trusted someone for 14yrs, never put him on my credit cards, but did take care of a lot of his expenses/debts. He decided he wanted out that he shouldn’t pay me back. That being said, I’m lost, I’m stressed, and I’m ashamed. I can do debt consolidation, but I’m scared. I heard you pay 3 months to them while they are negotiating your debt w/ the credit card co’s. During that time, you are getting more dings against your credit because they aren’t paying them yet…so you have to pay them too. Afterwards, if they are late on payments…more dings. I have a new boyfriend that gives me a grand a month…but I’m afraid the same thing will happen. Any suggestions?

Debt Consolidation vs. Chapter 7 Bankruptcy?

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

Hey I have a few questions about Debt Consolidation Vs Chapter 7 Bankruptcy.
Heres the story, My girlfriend has about 20k worth of debt, shes 31 weeks pregnant, and is going to be a stay at home mom.
Everything is fine off of my finances, but we want to get hers straightened out, and she doesn’t want me to be responsible for them because they were from when before we met.
so she was looking at the pros and cons between the two.
I own a house we each have a car under my name… theres not much under her name that she has, besides jewelry clothes and stuff like that.
I don’t want them to come after any of my stuff!
what do you guys think is the best option for her / us?
should she just bite the bullet and file and be done with it, or work on getting the debt reduced and pay it off?
any input is appreciated
Thanks

Debt consolidation?

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

I have about $6,500 worth of debt, my income after taxes is about 21,000 a year. Most of my creditors have closed my accounts (all of my credit is maxed out). I recently got my FICO score and it is 529 (very, very poor). I have called some companies that specalize in debt consolidation and I have been told that I do not have enough debt. I talked to a professional about bankruptcy and was advised against filing because I do not have enough debt. I am a renter, and do not have any assets that could be held for collateral. With my credit score being the way it is, and closed accounts on my credit record… what are my options?

Can you eliminate credit card debt by declaring bankruptcy?

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Can an individual eliminate credit card debt by declaring bankruptcy? I didn’t think you could wipe it out, just get the bill collectors off your back. But, someone told me that it depends on which chapter of bankruptcy you use. The right one WILL eliminate credit card debt. I know someone who has $80,000 in credit card debt and they are trying to do that to get rid of that debt! Is it really possible? Are there any restrictions in doing this. Can you ever get a credit card again if you do it?
If you file bankruptcy to eliminate all debt, do you have to give up ALL of your possessions? Will you have anything left?
This is for a friend of mine (really). They don’t own a home. They have 2 cars and some furniture and A 401k plan. Between the two of them they make about $40,000 a year. I don’t see how debt consolidation will help them How could they EVER pay off $80,000!?! They had a house but they used up all the equity in it over the years and sold it recently and broke even on the deal, ending up with NOTHING! What a mess! I just didn’t think they could wipe out their credit card debt! And, it really isn’t fair to the rest of us that pay our bills!

Debt Consolidation/Reduction? Feedback from people that have used companies for help reducing debt?

Monday, July 13th, 2009

HI, I am hoping that people who have used debt consolidation or reduction companies, can give me a little feedback on what the process involves, what type of debt you started out with, how fast was it paid off? What did it do to your credit? I feel like I am drowning right now and have to think about this as an option, but feel I need more information from people that have used something similar before. Also, if you had a good experience, can you pass along contact information for the company you used? Thanks in Advance!
